It is not just Accountants who have to deal with financial matters. Business Owners and Senior Managers often have to make serious financial decisions and yet in many cases they have had little or no training in finance.

At Wellington Consulting our many years of Accountancy experience has enabled us to develop finance courses specifically aimed at those in senior positions who have no or a very limited financial background.

Finance for Non Finance Managers

This one day course gives managers an understanding of the significance of figures available within the business. Whether they are being expected to create and work within a budget, be involved in pricing new products, or simply being asked to improve the bottom line, this course will give them the knowledge and confidence to contribute to a profitable business.

The course includes:

    Detailed inspection of the profit and loss and balance sheet - and what to look for
    Factors often forgotten when creating a cash flow
    Where to start when developing budgets
    Elements of pricing and which method suits what

By giving the Managers this knowledge the business can:

    Control cash and make it work for you
    Ensure that discounts and deals with customers still produce a profit
    Enable business plans to include forecasts and raise extra funding if needed

We also offer firms the opportunity to have a bespoke course where we can spend 2 hours with your Accounts department prior to a course. This will allow us to understand how your firm operates. We will then modify our standard course to suit the way you work.

Finance for Business Owners

As a business owner, you are responsible for the figures. You may well get someone else to prepare them, but it is your signature that gives them the authority when used by outside parties, such as HM Revenue and Customs, Companies House, the banks or for a possible investor. Do you understand what you are signing?

This one day course covers the following topics:
How to read your accounts and ask questions before signing
How to use your historic accounts to help you monitor costs
How to create a budget for your business so you can achieve more
How to plan cash flow so you don’t run out.


By the end of the course you will be able to:

Know whether the business can afford it if your staff ask you for a pay rise or want to sign off some expenditure they feel is critical. 
Understand that a pay rise will have additional costs such as employer’s national insurance cost, pension costs, impact on other staff.
Build up a set of accounts and understand what common accounting terms really mean, so you can have productive conversations with the professionals.
Look at what plans have you got for your business and understand the financial implications of those plans. 
Recognise the importance of involving staff in the budgeting process and what to do with them once they have been created.
Analyse your current cashflow position and what you can do to improve it. 
Translate the budgets you have created into cash needed to achieve your goals.

This course is also available in an extended format, working one to one over several days. We can work with you, and your co-directors, to analyse where you are now and how you can get to where you want to be. As importantly, what you can do after the course to get the most benefit from your investment
